TeaCup Persians

This is simply a "marketing gimmick" the two main cat registries in the USA are CFA & TICA. Neither registry will register anything as a "teacup" that is a made up name as a sales pitch, to sell for a high profit.

Persians and Himalayans are gorgeous cats, and do not need to be "marketed" in the same manner as the "for profit only" breeders that mass produce puppies using the terms "teacup" "pocket" or "purse" size in an effort to make a higher profit.

Even responsible ethical breeders of the smallest toy dog breed, chihuahuas, will breed to the breed standard in the attempt to get a dog to show in the conformation ring. They do not breed in an attempt to get the smallest size possible, to sell for big bucks.  And they certainly do not use terms like their puppies are "teacups" as a sales pitch for more money.

No ethical, responsible breeder of either dogs or cats would be intentionally breeding to produce undersized, stunted puppies or kittens in an effort to sell for a higher profit.

I would advise anyone who is desperately searching the internet for the smallest persian possible at the cheapest price, to stop and consider why they feel they must pay an outrageous sum of money to own a "teacup"  There are many forms of dwarfisim and many causes for stunted growth. Why would someone would pay a breeder more, because they are breeding to intentionally produce an undersized, stunted kitten, to sell for a higher profit.

As for normal persian sizes, they can vary from a petite 5 or 6 pounds up to a heavy boned 10 or 12 pounds or even more in some cases.  Certainly a 4 or 5 pound persian at maturity, is not "rare" or some new breed.  Just a bit undersized, all breeders will get a smaller kitten every now and then.

I do not run around weighing my persians daily, to see if I may have a "teacup".  I am certainly never going to place a kitten, or price a kitten, based on weight or projected weight.
